About Pit River Health Service
Our partner clinic is a non-profit 501(c)(3) ambulatory health clinic founded in 1979 by the Indian Health Service (IHS). The tribal facility is governed by a joint shared panel and proudly serves approximately 2,000 tribal members from 11 distinct bands of tribes.
Located at the foot of picturesque Burney Mountain, a mere four hours northeast of the Bay Area, our center is dedicated to providing primary care to the remote community of Burney, California, with a strong focus on serving the local American Indian population. We operate two clinics: our primary clinic in Burney and a satellite clinic situated on the nearby Tribal reservation, just an hour-and-a-half drive away in Alturas, California. The clinic welcomes both Native and non-Native patients and accept various insurance types, including Medi-Cal, Partnership, Medicare, and most private insurances.
Burney, CA, nestled in Shasta County, offers abundant opportunities for fly fishing in the nearby rivers and streams. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, a mere fifteen-minute drive away, beckons those seeking natural beauty. This region is ideal for individuals who relish the tranquility of rural life and appreciate outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and rafting.
