Des Moines, where only the S's are silent!
The Community – Des Moines, IA
There is a reason Des Moines is the fastest-growing city in the Midwest. People like it there, and not only in a "great-place-to-raise-a-family” way, but in a "great-place-to-spend-a-weekend” way, too. To satisfy your hunger, they've got regional specialties ranging from burgers served up zombie-style to Steak De Burgo. And if you're thirsty, their two biggest taprooms combine for more than 340 beers on tap. To cure any type of boredom, their Downtown Farmers' Market is ranked #2 in the country, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of miles of biking trails across the city. Kids in tow? Well, there's an answer for that too. Adventureland Park, the Science Center of Iowa and Blank Park Zoo bring out the kid in everyone. Not to mention for us 'kids' who happen to be grown and want to cure our boredom with retail therapy, you can check out one of the Midwest's premier shopping malls, Jordan Creek Town Center, or take a stroll through the hip Historic East Village. After checking out Des Moines for yourself, the thought will go from "Des Moines, huh?” into "Des Moines, who knew??”
