Job Description

Last Update: 12/04/24
Rural regional hospital is hiring for a BE/BC part-time Urologist in Central Eastern Maine on the New Brunswick border. This is a highly valued service the hospital provides the community. The current Urologist typically will schedule procedures the first week here and then is here the second to make sure everything has gone well and the patient has recovered, with more office hours and scheduling procedures for the next visit.

  • Part time position. 26 weeks per year - you provide the hospital with the schedule you want to work out those 26 weeks. Current provider comes in sometimes 2 weeks per month, or sometimes 3 weeks and take an entire month off.
  • Take over patient panel from retiring physician
  • Largest employer in the area with 400 employees
  • Located in Aroostook County on the Canadian border. Low property prices and low crime rate.
  • 90 minutes from Bangor and just over 3 hours from Portland
  • Perfect position for a locum who would like to be a hospital employee and return to same facility for all assignments, OR for the Urologist who is approaching retirement, doesn’t want to do big cases anymore, but not quite ready to retire!
  • Procedures: Biopsies, Cystocopy with anesthesia or with retrograde, Local cystoscopies, holmium laser lithotripsy, stent removal, vasectomy, urolift, urethral dilation, transrectal ultrasounds and transurethral procedures, and more.

The Community:

Located on the section of the border that runs vertically between the United States and Canada, Houlton is in Maine’s Aroostook County and is set among some of the state and country’s most rural, scenic, and rugged landscapes. It’s also known for its variety of annual fairs and festivals that draw people from all over the region, and its border location makes day-trips into Canada easy as well. During the warm summer months, the area around Houlton comes alive with more activities than most visitors expect; many of them have been going on for years and are family friendly.

Whether you’re a hiker, mountain biker, snowmobiler or ATV rider, you can enjoy a different sort of exploration on the Southern Bangor and Aroostook Trail. This 37-mile, multi-use trail follows an old rail bed, so it’s relatively flat. It makes for a great trip as it winds through small towns in southern Aroostook.

In May, join a hoard of other beer lovers in welcoming spring – and a bunch of new brews – at the annual Black Fly Brewfest. Over the 4th of July weekend each year, you can enjoy the Houlton Agricultural Fair, featuring concerts, amusement park rides and agricultural attractions. Want some fun on the water? Stop by in the spring for the annual Meduxnekeag River Canoe Race. It’s run each spring for more than 35 years and draws paddlers to a 9.5 miles stretch of the river, ending at a park downtown.
