We are seeking a skilled General Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage from February , 2025 to February 2025. This is a hospital call-only assignment, focusing on routine general surgery cases, consults, and emergent procedures. No clinic responsibilities are required.

The selected physician will handle approximately 10+ emergency room calls and inpatient consults over the coverage period, focusing solely on emergent cases. Follow-up care will be managed by the facility’s permanent general surgeon.

  • Perform emergency general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and hernioplasty.
  • Manage both adult and pediatric cases in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide consults for emergent surgical needs, addressing routine and complex cases.
  • Handle ventilation management, chest tube insertion, and central line placements as needed.
  • Collaborate with the hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care during the assignment.



Job Responsibilities

Perform emergency general surgery procedures including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and hernioplasty.
Manage both adult and pediatric cases in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Provide consults for emergent surgical needs, addressing routine and complex cases.
Handle ventilation management, chest tube insertion, and central line placements as needed.
Collaborate with the hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care during the assignment.

Qualifications

Board Certification: Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
Licensure: Active Pennsylvania medical license required.
Certifications: ACLS, ATLS, BLS, PALS, ABLS.
Experience: Fellowship preferred; a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Must possess hospital/surgery center privileges; temporary privileges are available.
Proficiency in using Epic EMR for documentation.

Working Hours

Shifts: On-call coverage only. No clinic duties.
Setting: Inpatient and outpatient.
Call ratio: Approximately 10+ ER calls and inpatient consults over the week.

Skills

General surgery procedures, including laparoscopic techniques.
Emergency case management, including trauma and pediatric surgery.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with hospital teams.
Familiarity with inpatient and outpatient care dynamics.
