We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible General Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage. The role will primarily involve inpatient general surgery with scheduled clinical hours plus call coverage. This short-term assignment provides an opportunity to work with a dedicated hospital staff in a high-acuity care environment.
  • Manage inpatient general surgery cases, including trauma and acute care needs.
  • Perform a range of general surgical procedures such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, and chest wall procedures.
  • Conduct daily rounding for 2–4 hours and handle 3–4 consults with 10 patients on rounds.
  • Respond to on-call obligations with a 20-minute response time.
  • Complete necessary documentation for patient contact hours, including call-back events.
  • Proven experience managing general surgery cases, including trauma and acute care.
  • Proficiency in laparoscopic and emergency surgical techniques.

Qualifications

Education & Certification:
MD or DO degree.
Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery (required).
Fellowship in General Surgery or Trauma (preferred).
Licensure & Certifications:
Active North Carolina medical license (required).
ACLS certification (required).

Working Hours

Urgent Coverage Dates:
January 3 (7 AM) through January 5 (7 AM).
Additional Call Coverage Dates:
January 13, 15, 20, 21, 23, 27, 29, and 30 (7 AM to 7 AM).
On-Call Schedule:
24-hour call coverage with callback obligations.
Hospital Time:
Expected 2–4 hours daily for rounding; remaining hours on call.

Skills

Expertise in general surgical procedures, including:
Trauma care.
Laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty).
Chest tube and central line insertion.
Chest wall/pleural procedures.
Strong decision-making and emergency management skills.
Ability to work independently and manage solo on-call responsibilities.
