We are seeking a skilled and experienced General Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage in an inpatient setting. This role involves call-only responsibilities with no office hours. The facility requires a board-certified surgeon with a current North Carolina license to address patient needs and provide high-quality surgical care.
- Setting: Inpatient only.
- Beds in Department: 35.
- Rounding: Both pre- and post-operative patient rounding required.
- Support Staff: Independent practice; no additional RN, PA/NP, or MA staff required
- This is an ongoing locum tenens assignment starting 2025.
- Weekend coverage for emergency call shifts is a primary focus.
- Preference given to candidates with flexibility for consistent coverage.
Job Responsibilities
Perform essential procedures such as appendectomies, cholecystectomies, hernioplasties, and laparoscopic surgeries.
Respond to emergency department calls and ensure a 30-minute response time when on call.
Conduct pediatric and adult surgical procedures as required, including trauma-related cases.
Execute advanced procedures such as chest tube insertions, central line insertions, ventilation management, and minor orthopedic interventions.
Maintain clear and timely documentation using MAP4 and MedHost EMR systems.
Qualifications
Fellowship training in surgery is required.
Licensing:
Active medical license in the state of North Carolina.
Certifications:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications are mandatory.
Working Hours
Beeper call; 30-minute response time required.
Average of 6 phone consultations and 5-6 patients per shift.
Call back rate of approximately 3%.
Skills
Ability to handle emergency cases promptly and effectively.
Strong communication and decision-making skills under pressure.
Experience with pediatric, adult, and trauma cases.
Familiarity with MAP4 and MedHost EMR systems is preferred.
