We are seeking a skilled Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon for a locum tenens position in, Pennsylvania. This opportunity involves working across multiple sites, providing high-quality care in both clinic and surgical settings. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing endoscopy procedures (upper and lower scopes) as well as general surgery.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct patient consultations in the clinic to evaluate their need for surgical intervention.
Diagnose and manage medical conditions requiring general surgery.
Surgical Duties:
Perform a variety of general surgery procedures, including "bread and butter" surgeries.
Conduct endoscopic procedures such as upper and lower scopes.
Manage elective OR cases and coordinate with the OR team.
Call Coverage:
Provide 24-hour clinic and call coverage at least twice a week.
Respond promptly to emergency calls and handle an average of two admissions per call shift.
Rounding:
Participate in daily patient rounding alongside another surgeon and an Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
Administrative and Collaborative Tasks:
Work collaboratively with other surgeons, APPs, and clinic staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Document patient information and treatment plans accurately using Cerner and Epic EMR systems.
Ensure compliance with all hospital and clinic policies and regulations.
Travel and Multi-Site Coordination:
Work at multiple sites weekly, including Franklin Surgical Associates and UPMC Northwest Hospital.
Coordinate with the clinic team to align surgery schedules with patient needs.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 1 year
Licensure: Pennsylvania state license (open to candidates who need to obtain licensure)
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, CPR, PALS
DEA: Required
EMR Systems: Experience with Cerner and Epic preferred
Working Hours
24-hour clinic + call shifts (minimum 2 days per week)
1-2 days per week for elective OR cases/scopes
Skills
Expertise in general surgery procedures ("bread and butter" surgeries)
Strong clinical decision-making and patient care coordination skills
Effective communication and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
Familiarity with EMR systems (Cerner and Epic)
Ability to handle 24-hour clinic + call shifts and elective OR cases
