Response time to be onsite is within 30 minutes.

*Physician is not required to be on-site while providing Call Support (this means Market should not be charged for call back hours if a physician decides they want to stay in the hospital, but there is not the need for him/her to be there based on the criteria contained herein)

Situations when the on-call locum/PSA would be called to the hospital*:

  • Request from hospitalist to consult on patient that is inpatient.
  • Emergency room provider request consult.
  • Request to assist another physician with emergency surgery.

Documentation of Patient Contact Hours

Physicians are required to provide supporting notes listed on their timesheet entries to verify call-back hours (patient contact hours) submitted and associated with the acceptable occurrences mentioned above.

Physicians must document in the timesheet the specific reason for the call back and they should have a description such that the note can be validated if an audit report was generated in an electronic health record.

All charge tickets/Ingenious Med charges will need to be completed and turned in at the end of each rotation. This includes the completion of all hospital and/or clinic documentation.

Telephone call and medical record reviews should not be considered on site call back hours.

Travel Expenses

PSA physicians will need to turn in all travel expenses within 7 days of last shift worked for the month.

Expectations of amount of time in the hospital

The average callback from the ER, Women’s Health, or ED is variable and depends on the circumstances. The below are general averages:

  • consultation less than 60 minutes per patient
  • Emergency Surgeries will vary depending on situation and severity of procedure being performed.
  • Average time onsite would generally not exceed four to six hours in a shift.
