Job Description
board certified General Surgeon to join a part-time general surgeon and per diem team for Androscoggin Valley Hospital - part of North Country Healthcare (system of 3 Critical Access Hospitals).
Offers the broad scope of practice of a typical rural, community surgeon. Provides office-based general surgery services to new and established patients of all ages, including initial consultation for common general surgery concerns, performance of minor procedures, education and counseling of patients and families, ordering diagnostic tests, referral to related other specialties within and at tertiary care centers, and communication with PCP’s. Clinical support is provided by a medical assistant.
Most commonly diagnoses encountered are:
- Hernias (inguinal and umbilical)
- GERD and related symptoms
- Rectal bleeding
- Gallbladder disease
- Colon polyps or screening for colon cancer
- Hemorrhoids
- Sebaceous cyst
- Dysphagia
- Breast Conditions
- Diverticulitis
- Skin lesions (including cancers)
Provides operative (open and laparoscopic) and endoscopic procedures
Qualifications
Prior experience in a small hospital or CAH desired.
Must be comfortable with rural nature of practice/hospital, limited general surgery colleagues, solo coverage on call, and AVH’s complement of specialists (surgical and medical) and diagnostic testing capacity.
Special clinical interests/expertise to complement those of current part-time general surgeon and expand scope of services to our region are always welcomed. Candidate must be willing to offer the broad scope of practice of a typical rural, community surgeon.
Team oriented, collaborative, and patient focused. High level of customer service (patient satisfaction) is expected. Excellent, respectful communication with all members of care team.
H1-B and J-1 visa candidates will be considered if excellent communication skills.
Working Hours
Tuesdays – OR
Wednesdays – Office
Thursdays – Office
Fridays – Office (half day) or off*
Appointment durations are typically: 15 minutes for established patients, 30 minutes for new patients and 30 to 45 minutes for office-based procedure.
Typical productivity (based on usual mix of new and established patients) will be 12 to 18 patients per day. In general, 2 to 4 new patients per day.
10 days/month (includes one weekend a month)
