Job Description

Last Update: 11/18/24

We are looking to hire an advanced practice practitioner (APP) to serve full-time on a newly developing surgical intensive care team. This is an opportunity to provide critical care to surgical patients, as part of a new service line at CAMC Memorial. The typical census will include a variety of surgical patients including post-op and peri-op complex general and colorectal surgical patients. The service will expand to include vascular and thoracic surgical patients in coming months. The APP will work directly with a team of surgical intensivists to help develop and carry out management plans for these patients and perform various bedside ICU procedures. The APP will work closely with, but independent of, surgical residents and other trainees.

Job highlights include the opportunity to:

  • Partake in the development of a new service line, from the ground up.
  • Participate in the care of complex, critically ill surgical patients.
  • Learn, perform, and teach bedside procedures, including placement of arterial catheters and central venous catheters, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and tube thoracostomy.
  • Practice in a facility focused on medical education, working closely alongside surgical residents, medical students, pharmacy students, nursing students, and other trainees.
  • Participate in development of practice management guidelines for use across the institution.
  • Participate in research focused on acute care surgery and surgical critical care.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualities:

  • ICU experience; a certification in critical care is preferable.
  • Experience providing care for surgical patients.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills - this is a growing service in which there will be room for future expansion.
  • Eagerness to work with, teach, and learn from trainees in various training programs.

Job details:

  • Full time, weekday hours (approximately 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday)
  • Opportunities may exist for night and/or weekend coverage, which would be voluntary.

  • Work setting: surgical intensive care unit (inpatient)
  • Competitive pay and benefits package including, medical, dental, and vision plans, retirement packages, life insurance, PTO, etc.
