Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Accountable to the GPR Program Director and Department Chair for all professional and administrative activities pertaining to the respective program.
  2. Assists the Program Director in maintaining the integrity of the program to ensure compliance with the requirements of the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  3. Assists the Program Director to review and updates the residency training program (curriculum) on an annual basis. Assists the Program Director to revise the training manual on a periodic basis.
  4. Assists the Program Director to coordinates and conduct orientation lectures to incoming residents
  5. Directs the dental student extern program in accordance with the affiliation agreement between AEMC and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School of Medicine.
  6. Ensures communication between Program Director, residents, faculty, and patients.
  7. Participates in clinical instruction and supervision of residents which includes direct and indirect patient care. Supervision of patients, including observation of techniques, patient management skills, chart documentation, and financial case management.
  8. Assists the program Director in monitoring resident caseload for quality, diversity, and quantity.
  9. Assists the Program Director to valuates and monitors resident and faculty performance in
  10. accordance with hospital and accreditation agency standards and reports findings to the Program Director.
  11. Assists the program Director to coordinate the Departments Quality Improvement Program to assure compliance with the Departmental/Hospital Quality Improvement Plan.
  12. Ensures programmatic compliance with the Departmental and Hospital Infection Control Programs. Monitors and adjusts to meet changes in standards as necessary.
  13. Assists with departmental compliance pertaining to outside regulatory agency requirements (The Joint Commission, Department of Health, OSHA).
  14. Oversees resident research projects. Stimulates research programs and promotes research activity with residents and faculty. Encourage internal and external funding for research/special study projects and monitors use of such funds.
  15. Encourages resident presentation and participation at regional and national meetings.
  16. Participates directly in research/selected clinical studies with goal of publication in appropriate journals.
  17. Recommends and monitors programmatic expenses incurred in compliance with department and hospital budgets.
  18. Participates in hospital and practice plan committees.
  19. Attendance at medical staff semi- annual meetings in accordance with the Medical Staff By-laws. Attendance at resident presentation conferences, which includes Grand Rounds Seminars, the Fogel Memorial Conference (resident presentations and graduation).
  20. Meets regularly with the Department Chair, other Program Directors, the Department Administrator, and Divisional Chairmen as necessary.
  21. Utilizes respective Divisional Chairmen as resources to enhance the program.
  22. Delegates appropriate authority within the scope of the program to act on his/her behalf or absence.
  23. Other academic and administrative duties as may be required by the academic relationships with related dental schools.
  24. Clinical practice participation (diagnosis, treatment planning, consultative, emergent, and clinical management of comprehensive dentistry patients including outpatient and operating room care).
