General Description:
Position entails a combined physician appointment in the Medical Imaging section of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) at both the Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses. The Chief is primarily based at the Nashville campus. As Chief of the Service the position has supervisory responsibilities and is responsible for other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.

Supervisory Controls:
The physician works under the direction of the Chief of Staff and will oversee supervision of and
active participation in the education of radiology residents and fellows, medical students, radiology
technologists and student technologists.

Job Responsibilities

Functions:
a. The physician will provide general diagnostic Radiology services to the patients of VA TVHS. Interventional radiology is not a requirement. The physician should be able to perform and/or interpret a prescribed volume of studies utilizing a PACS and voice recognition. All studies and clinical notes should be performed, dictated and signed in a timely manner. The radiologist is expected to communicate directly with provider in a timely manner on all critical findings. The physician will participate in peer review activity as well as attend clinical conferences as assigned by the Chief of the Service or designee. Though night and weekend call is performed via a contracted teleradiology provider, the physician will be required to participate with other radiologists for call in the event that teleradiology is not available. The radiologist will also teach, supervise, and evaluate radiology residents and medical students from affiliated medical schools.

b. The physician will perform additional duties in such a manner to comply with all requirements of VA TVHS Medical Staff Bylaws, including participation in VA TVHS wide or Medical Imaging Service committees, commensurate with a staff physician of VA TVHS.

c. The physician will insure Medical Imaging compliance standards with all relevant governmental oversite
agencies including, but not limited to The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology, National
Health Physics Program and FDA Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).

d. The physician will directly supervise employees as assigned by the Chief of Staff.

e. The physician is expected to meet productivity benchmarks.

f. The physician will maintain BLS certification, DEA, continuing medical education and medical licensure.

g. The physician will attend meetings and participate in projects as directed by the Chief of Staff.

h. The physician will respond to all deadlines/suspense's as requested by Executive Leadership.

Qualifications

The physician must be board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
