**Position: Staff Psychiatric Physician**
**Location:** West Warwick, RI - Providence 15m
Full-time, permanent position
**Position Overview**
The Staff Psychiatric Physician is a licensed, autonomous provider responsible for delivering high-quality behavioral health care to Thundermist Health Center patients. This includes on-site clinical care, hospital care, and after-hours call and coverage. The role requires the use of professional clinical judgment within the agencys guidelines, policies, and procedures to evaluate, treat, and monitor patients with emotional, social, cognitive, developmental, or behavioral disorders.
**Required Qualifications**
- **M.D. or D.O.** degree with completion of a minimum **three-year residency** in one of the following:
- Psychiatry
- Board Certification in the relevant specialty within **two years** of employment start.
- Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Rhode Island.
**Clinical**
- Conduct patient evaluations using interviews and assessments of the patient, family, or other sources.
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on patient needs, including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, or other therapeutic methods.
- Monitor and adjust treatment and medications as needed.
- Consult with primary care physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure integrated care.
- Provide crisis intervention services when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, documenting all treatments and medications.
- Stay updated with medical advancements through professional development, conferences, and networking.
- Provide after-hours call and coverage for Thundermist and community-based patients.
**Administrative**
- Participate in departmental and team meetings to develop policies, procedures, and clinical goals.
- Review, document, and manage medical records.
- Coordinate referrals for laboratory services, specialty care, pharmacy, and ancillary services.
**Work Environment and Physical Effort**
- Moderate physical activity including walking, standing, and stooping.
- Potential exposure to biohazards such as bloodborne pathogens, respiratory and other infectious diseases, requiring adherence to universal precautions.
- Manual dexterity required for performing certain medical procedures.
- Transportation required for hospital-based care.
- Work occurs in clinical environments including ambulatory and hospital settings.
**Work Schedule**
- Full-time (40+ hours per week) or part-time (as agreed with administration).
- Minimum of **32 clinical on-site hours per week**.
- Includes inpatient hospital care and scheduled after-hours call/coverage.
- Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and periods of 24-hour call.
**Communication Skills**
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in medical terminology.
- Bilingual proficiency in **Spanish** or **Laotian** is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
