Job Description
We are seeking a Locum Psychiatrist for PRN (as-needed) coverage. This position involves inpatient psychiatric care for adults and adolescents, as well as hospital and emergency room consults. The Locum Psychiatrist will supervise APPs, manage a varied caseload, and be part of a facility dedicated to mental health excellence. This role is on-site only (telehealth not accepted) and includes call responsibilities.
- Provide psychiatric evaluations and treatment for inpatient adults and adolescents (ages 6+).
- Conduct hospital consults and emergency room evaluations.
- Supervise two Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
- Manage and treat conditions such as anxiety, psychotic, developmental, affective, personality, eating, and organic disorders.
- Utilize therapeutic interventions, including family therapy, pharmacotherapy, group therapy, restraint application, and seclusion therapy.
- Participate in voluntary commitments and emergency response situations as needed.
- Document patient care in Cerner EMR.
- Collaborate with security teams to maintain a safe environment.

Qualifications
Iowa License or IMLC certification – Required.
Minimum 2 years of inpatient psychiatric experience – Highly preferred.
Familiarity with treating a variety of psychiatric conditions and providing diverse therapeutic interventions.
Experience with adolescent and adult patient populations.
Working Hours
Call shifts are required and may include nightly, holiday, and 24-hour on-call duties.
Skills
Ability to supervise and collaborate effectively with Advanced Practice Providers.
Strong documentation and EMR (Cerner) proficiency.
Effective communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
Familiarity with safety protocols in inpatient psychiatric settings.
