The Georgia Department of Corrections is recruiting a Statewide Mental Health Director to represent the Georgia in overseeing the delivery of mental health services for all prison facilities throughout the state. S/he will be responsible for establishing standard operating policies, programs for treatment, housing assignments, and contract monitoring of the vendor for all mental health services.
The ideal incoming Director will maintain focus on the overall health of state prisoners at both strategic and tactical levels. Through collaboration with medical, dental, and vendor leadership, s/he will identify opportunities for improvement and will construct innovative solutions to meet these goals. Notable objectives may include: reducing prisoner suicide rate, addressing offender mental health issues resulting from gender dysphoria, continuing development and implementation of medication assistance treatment programs, advancement of substance abuse treatment centers, and ensuring the standardization of policies, compliance, performance, and accountability at the facility level. The Statewide Mental Health Director will also be responsible for speaking on behalf of GDC on all mental health-related matters ranging from individual offender incidents to program or statewide-level issues, giving depositions, and participating as a 306(b) witness as appropriate.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
• Doctorate level in psychology or psychiatry.
• Licensed in the state of Georgia in psychology or psychiatry.
• Five years of field experience as a Correction Clinician.
• Five years of experience in mental health administration.
• Working knowledge of Corrections mental health standards.
• Experience in mental health litigation.
• Experience in holistic integrated approach.
