The Staff Psychiatrist at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, plays a vital role in student mental health. In this position, you’ll conduct individual assessments, manage medication for students, and ensure the quality and safety of psychiatric services. Collaborating with other mental health professionals and maintaining strict confidentiality are essential aspects of the role. Additionally, you’ll have opportunities to supervise psychiatric residents and contribute to the overall well-being of the student community.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct individual assessments and manage medication for students.
• Ensure continuous quality, accessibility, and safety of psychiatric services.
• Diagnose psychiatric conditions based on the DSM-5-TR.
• Establish treatment plans and document them using the Counseling Center Electronic Record System.
• Collaborate with licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychology trainees.
• Work closely with Student Health Services (SHS) to provide integrated mental healthcare.
• Liaise with community mental health providers and hospitals related to student psychiatric care.
• Assist in emergency situations and crisis response services for students.
• Cooperate with colleagues in a spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
• Provide health education to promote client self-care and psychological well-being.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
• The position is primarily located on the Stockton campus.
• There may be opportunities to supervise psychiatric residents in their 4th year of training.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree from an accredited medical school program.
• Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
• Active California license with no previous license history.
• Two (2) years of experience providing outpatient psychiatric care.
• Prior experience addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
• Ability to work well with a diverse client population.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with other departments on campus.

Working Hours

20 hours/week (flexible)
