Essential Functions
- Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of primarily psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
- Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient.
- Provides verbal and written education and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Plans follow-up care, including requests for outside consultations and evaluations.
- Maintains patient records necessary for clinic reporting, billing, and quality improvement.
- Functions potentially in a variety of settings, including a health center, skilled nursing facilities, supportive housing sites, and in clients' homes.
- Participates as a member of the site clinical services team and attends clinical team meetings.
- Acts as an advocate for the patient and liaison with outside agencies as appropriate
- Supervises Advanced Practice Psychiatric Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants)
- Medical degree required and must have completed psychiatry residency and board eligible
- Current and unrestricted Medical License to practice in the state of California
- Must have current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration to prescribe certain medications.
- Spanish Language proficiency.
- Interest in working with a diverse patient population in a community-based organization and sensitivity to their needs and health problems; commitment to a community health philosophy of prevention and primary care.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
- Experience in federally qualified health center or other community health environment preferred
- Experience as part of a team-based care model.
- Electronic Health record, Epic experience.
