Job Responsibilities

Serves as Medical Director for an Inpatient Mental Health Center. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Administers all medical, psychiatric, nursing, social service and psychological treatment provided to both forensic and civil recipients on all units of the Center;
- Develops policies and procedures for all program areas in accordance with departmental policies, mental health
- Administrative and clinical duties 80/20
code and various accreditation and certification bodies;
- Directs the implementation of services.

Serves as foil-line supervisor which includes union, non-union, and contractual staff. Duties include but are not limited to;
- Assign and reviews work;
- Provides guidance and training to assigned staff;
- Counsels staff regarding work performance;
- Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs;
- Establishes annual goals and objectives;
- Adjusts first level grievances;
- Effectively recommends and imposes discipline, up to and Including discharge;
- Prepares and signs performance evaluations;
- Determines and recommends staffing needs.

Serves as manager of medical program operations. Duties Include but are not limited to:
- Recruits, negotiates, and selects outside vendors to provide specialized medical services;
- Monitors vendor performance and activities for compliance to contracts;
- Develops reports regarding discharge summaries and other medical reports and correspondence;
- Authorizes payment based upon services rendered;
- Develops and manages medical/clinical budgets within general policy guidelines established by the Budget and Business Administrator,
- Monitors the contracts and reviews billing for medical/clinical services to verify qualitative services as delivered;
recommends termination of medical/clinical contracts.

Represents medical services and programs. Duties Include but are not limited to:
Serves as a member of the hospital clinical and management team and governing body;
- Represents the hospital on a variety of statewide medical committees;
- Serves as chairman of the Executive Medical Staff Committee;
- Make committee assignments.

Serves as facility expert on mental health laws, regulations, and trends. Duties include but not limited to:
- Examines recipients for certification under the Mental Health Code;
- Participates in patient care reviews;
- Represents the Center and medical staff in court proceedings.

Performs incident Investigation and reporting including, but not limited to:
- Reviews all serious incident management reports and use of Hospital Restraints and Seclusions authorizations;
- Investigates and reports issues related to patient abuse and neglect and other mandated reported.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working as a member of a diverse team including psychologists, medical physicians, nursing and social services post residency;
• Administrative experience in a medical/clinical program beyond (3 years) the minimum requirement;
• Experience supervising medical professionals;
• Experience managing and developing budgets;
• Experience working on program development including drafting of policy and procedure;
• Skilled at ensuring patient focused outcomes & a compassionate approach to patient care;
• The ability to effectively communicate to a broad audience
