Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant (PA)


We have a facility seeking a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) for locum tenens support as they look to fill a current need.


Schedule/Practice Detail:

Coverage Dates: 3/02/2025 – 6 months


Schedule Details: 12.5hr shifts AM & PM. Shift times either 7am - 7:30pm or 7pm - 7:30am, 7 days weekly, including holiday and weekends. Will accept Nights only or rotating days & nights. Scheduling is done by 3-month blocks.


Responsibilities within Role:

Must be proficient with H&P’s, rounding, presenting, notations on care etc. within Epic, coordinating specific orders (example: labs, imaging), interpreting results, performs all required procedures and performs basic and advanced life support skills, obtains consults as needed, manages and coordinates discharges, assists physician and medical team during emergency situation, updates all patient handoff’s prior to patient sign out to oncoming PA, and prepares all scheduled admissions. See attached responsibilities for this role. Experience with ECMO and pediatric cardiology preferred (not required).


Program Model: : 1 PA per shift with potential flex to 2 depending on patient volume. Mixed resident/PA team. 2 residents and 1 PA. The PA works directly with the PICU fellow and attending.


Patients per Day/Volume(rounding):

Patients per day: 4-7 ppd

Admissions: 1-3, variance due to transfers and discharges

Procedures Required: Arterial puncture, nasoduodenal placement (NDT), removal of chest tubes, arterial lines, and central venous lines, and lumbar puncture. Extubating and removal of temporary pacing wires preferred (not required).

If procedures required, back up specialties available: Yes

Trauma Level: Level 1

Run Codes: Will be responsible to initiate and assist PICU Team with running codes

EMR: Epic


Miscellaneous Information: 23 bed PICU with in-house PICU fellow and attending 24/7.


Requirements:

Must have 2 years of recent experience within pediatrics and be able to perform the required procedures

Must be BC

Life Support: PALS, BLS

Must have active NY License
