The Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is recruiting a visionary leader to become the next Medical Director of PHM/Newborn Medicine in the Division of Pediatric Outreach Medicine. Qualified candidates should be committed to the Department’s mission to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion and should be a recognized leader in Pediatrics with demonstrated leadership experience, and a strategic vision for the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy missions of a thriving Division.

The Division of Outreach Medicine is a highly productive and vibrant academic Division with more than 50 clinicians. It has a broad mission that includes: 1) providing excellent clinical care in sections that include general hospital medicine, newborn medicine including delivery room support, care of well and level II NICU babies; 2) educating students about pediatrics and training the next generation of pediatricians; 3) advancing child health through improvement and systems safety; and 4) community-engaged child advocacy. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, a 325-bed facility, is the home of the Division and is the leading comprehensive freestanding children's hospital in the state. It is regularly recognized among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report, Thomson Reuters and Parents magazine.

The Division provides care to both inpatient and outpatient encounters in hospital and newborn medicine as well as primary care and urgent care. The division is home to department and institutional leaders across all mission areas with faculty serving in national leadership positions and receiving honorific awards from a variety of professional organizations.

The Department of Pediatrics has a robust research mission and consistently ranks in the top ten in NIH funding among U.S. Medical Schools. There is a comprehensive pediatric physician-scientist training program that facilitates transition to independent research careers. VUMC is located in the heart of Nashville, a thriving city of commerce, finance, healthcare, and music. Nashville is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense as diversity and inclusion are core values of the Department of Pediatrics and VUMC. We are intentional in creating and sustaining an inclusive and equitable environment and believe it is essential that our faculty reflect the population we serve. Minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and members of other underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Vanderbilt is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
