Charleston Area Medical Center and the Department of Pediatrics is seeing a dedicated and compassionate Child Advocacy Physician to join our team in providing comprehensive medical care and advocacy for children who are victims of abuse and neglect. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to child protection, multidisciplinary collaboration, and providing expert medical evaluations and testimony in cases of child maltreatment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough medical evaluations and assessments of children suspected of being victims of abuse or neglect.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers, law enforcement, legal professionals, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide expert medical opinions and testimony in legal proceedings as needed.
  • Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary team meetings, and community outreach programs.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and follow-up care for affected children.
  • Educate and train medical staff, students, and community partners on recognizing and responding to child abuse and neglect.
  • Advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of children within the healthcare system and the community.


Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Pediatrics; fellowship training in Child Abuse Pediatrics is strongly preferred.
  • Valid medical license to practice in the state of West Virginia.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in pediatrics, with a focus on child abuse and neglect.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of medical care and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and emotionally challenging situations with compassion and professionalism.
