24 hour call coverage, 7a-7a

Response time to be onsite is within 30 minutes(*Physician is not required to be on-site while providing Call Support (this means Market should not be charged for call back hours if a physician decides they want to stay in the hospital, but there is no need for him/her to be there based on the criteria contained herein))
24 hour call coverage, 7am - 7am, see all babies born, c-section coverage, perform consults in the ED when asked, facilitate transfer when asked, admit to pediatric unit. EMR: Athena and Meditech
Setting is inpatient

Requirements:

Board Certified/Board Eligible
Licensed in VA or IMLC
PALS,NRP - Required
See all babies born, c-section coverage, perform consults in the ED when asked, facilitate transfer when asked, admit to pediatric unit
Skills: Lumbar puncture, UVC, Pediatrics, Newborn, Intubation (ETT/NT), Acute, Chronic, Ventilation Management (Pediatric),Ventilation Management (Newborn),Non-Invasive Ventilation Management (neo-puff).
Residents help with call coverage. Locum must be willing to do cath UAs and lumbar punctures.

Situations when the on-call locum Pediatric Hospitalist would be called to the hospital:

Nursery:

  • See all babies born at the facility.
  • C-section Coverage
  • Urgent C-section: within 60 min
  • Stat C-Section: within 30 min

Emergency Department

  • Perform consults in the ED when asked.
  • Facilitate transfer when asked.

Peds Unit

  • Admit patients to the Pediatric Unit when available staffing
  • RSV most common admission

Clinic Call

  • After-hours clinic call (5 PM- 8 AM)
  • All calls are triaged by phone nurse, only urgent calls are sent to on-call physicians
  • The physician will determine if the patient can wait until the following clinic day or report to the ER.

Expectations of amount of time in the hospital

The average call back from the floor or ED is variable and depends on the circumstances. Please document all call backs with time required.
