Clinical Role:

- Dates needed:
- 12/14-night shift
- 12/27-12/28-day shift
- 12/29-12/30-night shift
- 1/2-1/4-day shift
- 1/4-night shift ... More dates to follow
- Work and Call Schedule: 10- and 14-Hour Shifts tbd based on facility need
- Days (7a-5p) Nights (5p-7a)
- # of Physicians in Dept: 8
- 100% peds
- Avg.# of Cases per day:
- 150 – 180 PICU admits a year
- 200 – 260 intermediate admits a year
- Census in the ICU is 3 – 5 patients (average number is 3 patients)
- The census for intermediate patients varies from 2 – 7
- Support Staff:
- 1 Clinical Nurse Specialist on staff
- Support staff includes the ICU team, with the Hospitalists covering calls (but an ICU physician must be on back-up)
- Ancillary staff includes child life, pastoral services, nutrition, social services, PT/OT, and speech
- Reason for Locum need: To help while the group searches for perm and potential gaps in shift coverage
- Work and Call Schedule: 10- and 14-Hour Shifts tbd based on facility need
- Procedures Required:
- Most of the patients are medical. The surgical cases usually are initiated by the PICU physicians or else they are elective.
- Pediatric Sedation Service in place (sedations for special procedures, minor procedures, and radiology procedures);
- Hospitalists cover all of the sedations and Pediatric ICU physicians do sedations that are ASA III.
- Pediatric ICU physicians help direct air transport for Pediatric trauma cases.
- The ICU manages mechanical ventilation, HFOV and inhaled nitric oxide. Trauma patients (>14 years of age), post-op patients (general surgery, OMFS, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, ortho, spine, ENT, etc.).
- Beds in Facility: 453
- Trauma Level I
- EMR: Epic
- BC/BE in Pediatrics or Hospital Medicine/Pediatrics. Board Eligible if recently out of training
- Actively licensed in Illinois or those who already possess the IMLC certification with their participating compact state - All others will be rejected at this time
