Description

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and UVA Health Children’s seek candidates for a faculty position on a clinician or clinician-scientist track at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank to join our growing program. The appointee will join an outstanding group of clinicians, clinician-scientists and staff dedicated to the wellness of children and with deep expertise in caring for those with cancer and blood disorders, including hematologic malignancies, sarcomas and embryonal tumors, central nervous system malignancies, non-malignant disorders of an hematopoietic/immune/inflammatory nature, and similarly providing cutting edge cellular and immune therapies. You would join the highly collaborative environment of the University of Virginia, UVA Health and the number 1 ranked children’s hospital in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills, clinical excellence, curiosity, and interpersonal skills characterized by collegiality, humility and a service-oriented mindset. Equally important, they will share our institutional values of accountability, stewardship, professionalism, integrity, respect and equity.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience in the design and conduct of investigator-initiated clinical trials directed toward improving health outcomes for children with cancer and blood disorders. Experience working with scientific teams in a “lab-to-bedside-to-lab” workflow is highly desired, as is integration of our clinical enterprise with research opportunities. While this is a clinically-focused position, there are diverse opportunities for clinic-translational research in partnership with our NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The University of Virginia, School of Medicine and affiliated UVA Health form the premier medical research institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia and have a rich tradition of discovery, translational, clinical and outcomes-based and health services research grounded in a culture of collaboration and service. UVA Health is a 735-bed, level 1 trauma center that serves as the primary, specialty, and sub-specialty hospital for central Virginia. We are ranked the #1 children’s hospital in Virginia by U.S. News and World Report and nationally ranked in 9 subspecialties. UVA Health Cancer Center was recently granted comprehensive status by the National Cancer Institute, and a diverse group of research-oriented schools and centers across grounds provide a rich platform for shared discovery.

The University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, VA, situated in the Blue Ridge mountains and picturesque Shenandoah Valley just 100 miles from Washington, DC. Our region boasts outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation year round, including hiking, water-based recreation and skiing. Likewise, it is a short drive to Virginia beach and other types of costal recreation. Some of the finest restaurants and music are showcased on the Downtown Mall, the longest contiguous outdoor mall in the US. Our city is serviced by a regional airport, and travel by rail to cities throughout the eastern US is accomplished via a train station within walking distance of UVA. Charlottesville is routinely listed among the most desirable cities in which to live, raise a family and retire.
