The Executive & Academic Search team with Doximity Talent Solutions has partnered with Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health in Indianapolis on the national search for a driven academic, operational, and clinical leader as the Director of Surgical Pathology and endowed Lawrence M. Roth Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This incoming leader will join IUSM’s highly regarded Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine reporting directly to the Vice Chair of Anatomic Pathology, Jessica Davis, MD (who previously held the Director of Surgical Pathology role), and ultimately to the Chair of Pathology, Michael Feldman, MD, PhD.
This Director of Surgical Pathology will be responsible for setting the strategy and policy for surgical pathology for IU Health. She/he will ultimately be responsible for the scheduling, professional development, and sign-out for all of surgical pathology. But, as a leader, the department will look to you as someone who can develop other leaders at the section head levels within surgical pathology.
For this role of Director of Surgical Pathology we are seeking an innovative leader who can drive the integration to digital pathology within the department. In addition to this important move to digital pathology, the Director will be engaged in pursuing expanded research and industry sponsored studies within surgical pathology.
Through active faculty recruitment, the incoming Director will contribute to the growth of this department, which has added numerous new faculty since 2022.
This is a unique leadership role in a large pathology department which consists of 86 clinical faculty. She/he will oversee the largest area within the department, consisting of 39 surgical pathology faculty across seven (7) sections. As a member of the Anatomic Pathology leadership team you will collaborate with five (5) other anatomic pathology division directors and three (3) laboratory directors within AP to ensure that the needs of the department and health system are being met.
Qualifications:
- M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree with and ability to obtain Indiana license
- Board Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and area of subspecialty (if applicable)
- Experience with quality assurance, inspection, accreditation process. employee relations and scheduling
- At least 3 years of leadership experience in some capacity
- High emotional intelligence and leadership skills - ability to influence others
