The Department of Pathology serves a Hospital (Level I Trauma Center), a Children's and Women's Hospital (currently building a state of art Emergency Room which will open early 2024), a cancer center, a Patient Care Center, a free-standing ED, and multiple clinics throughout the greater coastal area
The clinical laboratories of the health system perform over 3 million tests/year. The transfusion medicine section is accredited by the AABB and College of American Pathologists (CAP). This area is also responsible for providing transfusion consultation services for high-risk surgeries and ob-gyn operations. We perform approximately 40 pediatric autopsies/year and about 4000 pediatric surgical cases.
Molecular/next generation sequencing, immunohistochemistry, FISH, and electron microscopy laboratories are part of the sophisticated menu oftests available. The Department has a combined residency training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with 12 residents and fellowship training programs.
