Job Description

Last Update: 9/20/24

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) Physician for a locum tenens position in Asheville, NC. This role involves providing 24-hour emergency department (ED) call coverage, ensuring the highest level of care for patients with ENT-related emergencies. The position requires strong clinical expertise and the ability to collaborate effectively with other specialists in a busy hospital setting. The schedule consists of 24-hour call coverage shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM the following day. The physician will be based in a hospital environment and will use the Cerner electronic medical record (EMR) system for documentation. The role includes assisting with oral and maxillofacial (OMF) trauma cases, working closely with other specialists to provide comprehensive care. To support locum providers with the responsibility of OMF trauma call, a system is in place that includes OMF residents on call 24/7. These residents are the first responders to any OMF cases that present in the ED. Additionally, an oral surgeon and a plastic surgeon are always on call for consultations, ensuring that locum providers have the necessary support and guidance.

The ideal schedule for OMF trauma involves oral surgery being on call every other day, with ENT and plastics covering the days in between. The goal is to stabilize most patients until the oral surgeons come on shift for trauma call the next morning. This arrangement allows for smooth handoffs and continuity of care, with oral surgeons providing follow-up care and becoming familiar with the patient.

Qualifications:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT).
  • Active North Carolina medical license or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience in managing ENT emergencies and trauma cases is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using EMR systems, particularly Cerner, is highly desirable.
