Job Title: Staff Physician (IM with Geriatrics, Gynecology, FP, Pediatrics, General Practitioner)

POSITION SUMMARY

The physician provides day-to-day management and medical care to the patients of the Center and those in hospital.

The physician is responsible to the Chief Medical Officer for exercising each of several functions described in this position description and is accountable, through the Chief Medical Officer, for the delivery and quality of the medical care services provided to patients at the Center and its satellites. The physician will serve as an important part of the management team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Serve as staff physician for the Center and its satellites.
  • Assists with the establishment of health care standards and protocols for each service described in the Center’s health care plan and to ensure quality of service; to assist with development of the Center’s health care plan with the assistance of staff to ensure that all goals and objectives are outlined.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the patients seen in the manner that ensure effective and efficient performance.
  • Operate within the parameters of a written position description that complies with the Center’s policies, rules and regulations. Establishes appropriate systems to assure quality of patient care.
  • See that the Quality Assurance Protocols, HIPAA, Corporate Compliance and CLIA standards are adhered to.
  • Establishes appropriate systems to assure the quality of patient care.
  • Maintains all Federal initiatives pertinent to patient care and participates in the process of budget development and in financial management decisions as they affect clinical activities.
  • Participates regularly in administrative meetings as a member of the Center’s management team.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Management Functions:

• Manages individual patient care activities at the Center.
• Confers with the Chief Medical Officer and CEO as needed.
• Supports and maintains the competence and quality of all clinical support staff.
• Consults with members of the provider staff on clinical issues or coordinates appropriate continuing education and in-service training.
• Assures safety and adequate maintenance of Center’s medical records.
• Conducts or supervises an ongoing quality assurance program.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide primary care services as appropriate under licensure and standards of care by specific scope of practice by specialty to patients at the Center as scheduled.
• Provides both in-patient and out-patient care as appropriate by specialty if credentialed by area hospital.
• Provide medical direction for health care activities.
• Periodically review patient medical records for accuracy and completeness.
• Provide medical orders and patient referrals as appropriate.
• The Physician shall refer and coordinate in-patient hospitalization for the Center’s patients at the hospital of the patient’s choice and/or at a facility as required pursuant to insurance contract guidelines.
• Maintains Credentials at area hospital as appropriate and as required.
• The Physician shall cooperate with the Chief Medical Officer in arranging for alternative back-up call, however, Physician must be available for call unless back-up support, approved by the CEO is available.

Professional Liaison Functions:

• Establish links with public and private clinical referral sources.
• Help the Center’s health care staff obtain hospital privileges.
• Assumes an active membership role in national, state and local medical societies.
• Conducts or coordinates activities designated to promote the community’s awareness of the Center’s health care program.
• Conducts or coordinates activities designed to mobilize community resources behind health promotion/disease prevention.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Have successfully completed residency training and be board eligible or board certified in a primary care specialty, such as Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or OB/GYN.
• Successfully completed medical training at a four year accredited medical school and received an M.D. or D.O. degree.
• Possess appropriate hospital privileges if required.
• Be “public health” oriented.
• Be full time Center employee.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Have excellent communication skills. Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job, such as clearly communicating with multiple personnel and patients. Must be able to handle stressful situations, good organizational skills necessary. Ability to work effectively with patients and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Computer skills, demonstrates a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Have a valid medical license to practice medicine in the state of South Carolina or where clinic is located.
