On-Call: Yes (6 days per week unless 7 is requested)

Overview

Seeking a locum orthopedic surgeon to provide coverage for a Level III Trauma Center. The role requires expertise in orthopedic trauma and elective total joint procedures. The provider must be comfortable managing pediatric and hand cases as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide range of orthopedic trauma cases, including hip fractures, ankle and plateau fractures, and compartment syndrome releases
  • Perform elective total knee and total hip replacements
  • Handle pediatric cases, primarily closed reductions and rare outpatient trauma
  • Manage hand cases, including stabilization, compartment syndrome evaluation, and flexor tenosynovitis surgery (hand surgeon available for definitive fixation)
  • Conduct 3-5 OR cases per day and see 20-25 patients per clinic day
  • Work an estimated 2 days in the OR and 3 days in the clinic per week (schedule varies)
  • Provide rotating day coverage for ED trauma cases and possible non-ED weekend patient/floor call and rounding

Requirements

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Fellowship in Trauma or Joints preferred, but not required
  • Experience in a Level 3 Trauma Center preferred
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR system

Support & Work Environment

  • Ortho Clinic & OR
  • Mid-level providers available (no supervision required)
  • Stryker Hoffman 3 external fixator set available in-house
  • Hand surgeon available for complex cases
  • 50% podiatry coverage; remainder is orthopedics

Schedule & Expectations

  • Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (plus late afternoon add-ons)
  • Possible weekend rounding & patient call (no ED weekend OR call)
  • Estimated 50/50 split between OR & clinic
  • 5-15 anticipated procedures/surgeries per week
