Come work at the Salem Veteran Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, while caring for our nation's veterans. Our physician must be Board Certified (or will be - for residents) and provide care in a clinical/surgical setting. Residents should be within one year of graduation.

Job Responsibilities

Staff ophthalmologist duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Provide comprehensive Ophthalmology care services as well as follow-up care of existing conditions and management of emergency conditions.
2. Provide Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Ophthalmology Services, including hospital rounds.
3. Perform/supervise Ophthalmic Surgery including laser procedures in the Operating Room, minor surgery room, arid laser room, averaging one to five (1-5) cases per day based on complexity. ·
4. Conduct weekly outpatient and inpatient clinics, averaging twenty to twenty-five (20-25) patients per day.
5. Alternate On-Call coverage with other VAMC Staff Ophthalmology Surgeon(s) and outside consultants.
6. Educate residents and students in the principles and therapy of complex and basic Ophthalmology Services/Surgery.
7. Participate in clinical research protocols either developed locally in cooperation with other faculty or developed at other institutions for multi-center studies.
8. Perform the administrative duties involved in the proper functioning of the Ophthalmology Section.
