About the Facility Overview Radiation therapy is one of many valuable tools that Mercy Health oncologists use to help you in your fight against cancer. Radiation oncology uses ionizing radiation in the treatment of cancer. Radiation beams are directed at the cancerous tumor to damage the cancerous tissue and control cell growth. Radiation can be used as the primary treatment, or can be used in conjunction with surgical treatments and chemotherapy. Our highly skilled oncologists will engage a multidisciplinary team to create a care plan that’s right for you.

If radiotherapy is deemed necessary as a part of your treatment, our doctors will also decide which delivery method will be most effective. Radiotherapy may be delivered externally using high-energy x-rays and electrons, or internally by placing radioactive sources within the patient. Mercy Health offers the following radiation treatment options including linear accelerator external beam irradiation, 3-D planning, brachytherapy implants, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), tomotherapy, image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and Radioactive Injections.
