**Physician - OB/GYN Laborist Role A - Grand Rapids, MI** **Job Summary** The OB/GYN Laborist Role A is an in-house position dedicated to ensuring safe, high-quality, evidence-based care for obstetric patients while managing hospital resources appropriately. In facilities with residents and medical students, this role includes supervising and educating residents. The OB/GYN Laborist serves as the primary, on-site provider, available throughout their shift. - **Assignment**: 24-Hour In-House Call Coverage Program - **Location**: High-volume labor and delivery units with over 3,000 deliveries per year **Essential Functions** - Prevent maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality by ensuring inpatient obstetric care meets or exceeds current standards. - Identify and address areas of clinical concern in collaboration with the obstetric care team, which may include: - Medical students, nursing staff, residents, maternal-fetal medicine fellows, APPs, and attending physicians. - Work with the charge nurse to manage unit resources based on clinical needs, including prioritizing labor inductions and cesarean deliveries. - Provide on-site, restricted obstetric care for patients with various care situations, including those without prenatal care, patients whose provider lacks privileges, or providers unable to be present. - Facilitate medically appropriate transfers from outside hospitals, informing the obstetric/neonatal team and managing transfer upon arrival. - Lead scheduled safety huddles and post-event debriefing sessions. - Offer clinical assistance to other OB/GYN attendings, APPs, and residents, including: - Providing second opinions, managing obstetric emergencies, and assisting with surgical procedures. - In resident-staffed facilities, supervise and support resident physicians in managing obstetrics patients, including triage, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. **Qualifications** - **Education**: Doctorate from an accredited medical college - **Licensure**: - State of Michigan MD or DO license (required upon hire) - DEA Registration in the State of Michigan (required upon hire) **Benefits Details** - A complete package to support financial, health, and work/life balance goals. - Powered by Payactiv. - Access to deals on restaurants, phone plans, spas, and more. - Identity theft protection, home, auto, and pet insurance. - Traditional and Roth retirement options with employer contributions and match savings.
