This role involves examining and treating patients independently within the OB/GYN scope of practice and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The OB/GYN Hospitalist ensures quality care for patients through proper diagnosis, treatment, disease prevention, and recovery support.
Role:
- Provide direct inpatient care to obstetric and gynecological patients, including labor and delivery management, postpartum care, and emergency obstetric care and gynecological emergencies.
- Respond to OB emergencies, including but not limited to, managing high-risk pregnancies, obstetric hemorrhages, and complications of labor and delivery.
- Work collaboratively with the maternity care team, including midwives, nurses and anesthesia anesthesiologists, and other specialists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Conduct inpatient consultations in gynecology and participate in the management of complex gynecological cases.
- Provide patient education on prenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and reproductive health.
- Adhere to all institutional policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure patient safety and quality of care.
- Take part in quality assurance audits, including continuing education, and peer review.
- Participate in continuing education and training to keep abreast of current developments in the industry. Provider run unit simulations (frequency to be determined)
- Recognize the diversity of the patient population and treat all warmly and kindly.
- Familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding.
- Sufficient clinical knowledge and experience to provide clinical competence and meet institutional standards of care.
- Interpersonal skills to deal harmoniously with staff, patients, and family members.
- Ability to meet specific HCAHPS metric
- Demonstrated ability to meet the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications:
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Valid medical license to practice in the state of North Carolina.
Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Certified in fetal monitoring preferred.
