We are hiring a qualified Physician- Obstetrics & Gynecology to join our team of talented professionals who provide healthcare services to our U.S. military and their families at Evans Army Community Hospital located at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.

  • Status: Independent Contractor (1099) | Full-time
  • Rate: Competitive Compensation + Sign-On Bonus
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday | 7:30am to 4:30pm | On-Call
  • Period of Performance: Current contract ends November 2027, with possible contract renewal.

The Physician - OB/GYN must have the following qualifications:

Degree/Education: Physician, OB/GYN shall have a doctorate degree from an accredited college approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or Doctor of Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association. Graduates of foreign medical schools are required to possess both a medical license and other certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or 5th Pathway.
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Shall have and maintain current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted for these certifications. All such education shall be attended in an unpaid status.
Experience: Shall have at least two years’ experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology after their residency caring for patients within the last six years or shall have at least one year’s experience on a civilian or military hospital staff within the last six years. Time spent in an accredited residency program will not be used to satisfy this requirement.
Board Certification: Shall be Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG) or an equivalent accredited program and have successfully completed a four-year residency program which is accredited by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Physicians.
Licensure/Registration: Shall have an unrestricted license in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clinical privileges to practice medicine at the MTF where services are provided.

Job duties are:

• Diagnose and treat diseases of and injuries to the genitourinary system and the reproductive system
• Diagnose and treat the full range of obstetrical and gynecological cases.
• Places IUD’s
• Routine and complicated antenatal patients
• Perform vaginal deliveries and cesarean-sections.
• Perform routine pelvic exams.
• Evaluates abnormal pap smears (colposcopy)

• Performs routine GYN surgery, such as abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy and operative laparoscopic treatment.
• Performs office procedures such as endometrial biopsy and routine OB ultrasounds.
• Rotating OB/GYN on-call services
• Perform physical examinations and shall determine if the standards of Army Regulation 40- 501 are met.
• Consult with and advise referring physicians on the diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Shall see patients as scheduled by MTF regardless of whether or not he/she is the primary physician using following patient flow: Initial visit – 30 to 40 minutes; Average patient follow-up visit – 15 to 20 minutes.
• Refer long-term and follow-up patients to appropriate clinic.
• Orders and interprets laboratory tests, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other data necessary to complete appropriate evaluation of patients.
• Participates in peer review and performs appropriate ICD-9 coding for all evaluations and services rendered.
• Provides preoperative consultations and perioperative management.
• Administer and/or prescribe special medications needed for treatment.
• Provide technical direction, assistance, and training to technicians as assigned.
• HCW’s must complete all necessary outpatient record entries and admission and discharge paperwork as well as progress reports as required by hospital regulations and standards of practice. Contract physician shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF to include but not limited to timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content and signature. Only MTF and Army approved abbreviations may be used for documentation of care in the health care record.
• Shall become knowledgeable with the hospital formulary. Shall prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy service will provide instructions to all prescribing practitioners on substitutability of generic drugs for prescribed drugs. Drugs not on the formulary or approved the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee will not be utilized unless a new drug request is submitted and approved. The HCW shall use computer order entry to order prescriptions or use prescription forms DD 1289 and MEDDAC Form 105-1 in accordance with local policy.
• . Participation in MTF Professional Committees during regular duty hours is limited to not serving as voting member and only will participate in the context of relation to health care duties or when there is no other qualified HCW.
• Take part in hospital Quality Assurance Programs as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission.
• Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of contract services as determined by the Department Chief or other designated representative.
• Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program.
