Job Description

Last Update: 10/10/24

The Department of Neurology at the Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking applications from fellowship-trained Stroke/Vascular Neurologists interested in joining our growing program within Jefferson University Hospital – Center City Campus.

The Thomas Jefferson University Stroke program is a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center that has consistently achieved Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status. The inpatient stroke service sees approximately 1000 cerebrovascular-related admissions per year. The robust outpatient stroke clinic provides patients with evidence-based guidelines for risk factor modification and longitudinal post-stroke care. There is an active program of clinical trials though its affiliation with STROKENET and other industry-funded research opportunities.

The individual will join a team of five Vascular Neurologists overseeing inpatient acute stroke care, vascular neurology consults, as well as outpatient stroke clinic. The allotment of time dedicated to inpatient or outpatient stroke care is dependent upon the applicant’s specific career goals and interests. The incoming physician would work closely with a collaborative team that includes other vascular neurologists, residents and fellows, neurocritical care providers, vascular neurosurgeons and advanced practice nurses.

In addition to developing a robust clinical practice, the individual should be committed to training the next generation of stroke fellows and neurology residents. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a passion for teaching and program development. Jefferson has a large medical school as well as vigorous Neurology Residency and Vascular Neurology Fellowship programs and there is ample opportunity to teach on rounds, give lectures, mentor trainees and participate in community education programs. In addition, the program is affiliated with a network of hospitals in the Delaware Valley. This offers the opportunity to further develop systems of care.

For those interested in clinical research or quality improvement, leadership roles in these areas are also plentiful within our stroke program. There is also the opportunity to participate in telestroke/teleneurology coverage.

Candidate Qualifications:

• M.D., D.O. or Foreign Equivalent

• Board Certification or Eligibility in Neurology, and Stroke/Vascular Neurology

• Unrestricted medical license and DEA in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or the ability to obtain one prior to start date

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University. If you are not currently vaccinated you will be required to receive the vaccination prior to hire date if you are offered employment, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
