Job Title: Transplant Nephrologist

Location: Bon Secours Mercy Health- St. Vincent Transplantation Center, Toledo, OH

Position Overview:

Mercy Health St. Vincent Transplantation Center in Toledo, OH is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Primary Transplant Nephrologist to join our new adult kidney transplant program. This role represents a unique opportunity to build and grow a locally and regionally and recognized Medical Center with a rising need for transplants across the communities, Mercy Health serves. The ideal candidate will be a board-certified or board-eligible nephrologist with expertise in transplant nephrology and a commitment to excellence in patient care, teaching, and collaboration.

This role will assure quality care in the evaluation and management of transplant candidates, recipients, and living donors. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this role will partner with the Program Director to build relationships with local nephrologists and other referring providers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board certified or eligible in nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Qualify as Primary Transplant Physician under OPTN Bylaws
  • Qualify for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Ohio
  • Leadership responsibilities commensurate with experience
  • Ability to obtain a DEA with full prescriptive authority needed for specific practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Outpatient Clinic Coverage:

Provide care in the ambulatory clinic, managing a range of nephrology conditions and transplant-related follow-ups.

Nephrology Group and Transplantation Call:

Participate in nephrology group and transplantation call, including pre- and post-transplant patient management.

Resident Teaching and Clinics:

Engage in teaching and mentoring residents, contributing to their clinical education and development.

Relationship Building and Collaboration:

Develop and maintain professional relationships with in-network and out-of-network physicians.

Job Expectations:

  • Deliver a full range of inpatient and outpatient nephrology services, adhering to hospital capabilities and standards.
  • Facilitate patient access to specialized medical care by recommending appropriate referrals and coordinating with other healthcare providers.
  • Serve as a supportive physician for pediatric nephrology needs at NCH, as required.

Teaching Opportunities:

Mentor and educate medical residents, fostering their clinical skills and professional growth.

Work Schedule:

  • Weekly clinic days, preferably five days a week, 8-hour shifts
  • Extended and weekend hours required when on call and for transplant.

Patient Demographics:

Patient Base: New service including PCP referrals and specialists (Hepatology/GI).

Virtual Health:

Conduct virtual health consults and rounding as part of the service delivery model.
