Job Description

Last Update: 1/08/25

We are working with a geriatric-focused clinic in Southern California. We are committed to delivering high-quality care to our patients, with a focus on patient satisfaction, team collaboration, and continuous improvement. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Director to join our team at our Compton and Greater Los Angeles locations.

Job Overview:

The Medical Director will oversee clinical operations and provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team in either the Compton or Greater Los Angeles (GLA) locations. The role will involve a mix of clinical and administrative responsibilities, with a focus on providing high-quality care for a diverse patient population. The ideal candidate will have experience in value-based care, a passion for geriatric care, and a collaborative approach to leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead clinical operations at the Compton or GLA locations, overseeing a team that includes Nurse Practitioners, RNs, and clinic staff.
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up for participants.
  • Develop and formalize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve patient satisfaction, care quality, and outcomes.
  • Participate in a call rotation, with a manageable burden, and receive additional compensation for on-call shifts.
  • Maintain oversight and provide guidance on medical practices, procedures, and patient care standards.
  • Collaborate with social workers, MHCs, and other team members to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
  • Supervise and manage administrative duties, including 20-25% of management time for staff and operations oversight.
  • Ensure a seamless patient enrollment process with appropriate assessments, care level development, and touchpoints with non-physician staff.
  • Report directly to the Regional Medical Officer and contribute to regional strategy and decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified in Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in a clinical leadership role, ideally in a value-based care setting.
  • Knowledge of PACE or similar programs is a plus but not required.
  • Strong clinical competency with a focus on geriatric and complex care.
  • Cultural competence to effectively serve the Korean, Hispanic, and African American communities in the Los Angeles area.
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals, including mid-level providers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Experience in managing both clinical and administrative duties, with the ability to balance both effectively.

Schedule & Hours:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Group huddle at 8:15 AM daily
  • Call rotation: 1:3 call, full week of call (shared with 3 other practitioners)
  • Call is handled administratively and clinically, is not burdensome and calls after hours are rare.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary: up to $290,000 per year
  • Performance-based cash bonus (up to 10% of salary, paid semi-annually).
  • $3,500 annual CME stipend + 1 full week of CME time off per year.
  • Additional benefits: Comprehensive health insurance, 401k, paid time off, and beeper fee compensation, potential sign-on bonus

Additional Details:

  • Location: The Compton site offers a secure, gated parking area, and is a safe, well-maintained facility. The Greater Los Angeles site is situated in a desirable area just minutes from downtown LA, offering a vibrant and dynamic work environment.
  • Patient Panel: Both locations are growing, with current patient panels ranging from 60-65 patients per location. The patient population is diverse, and we are looking for a leader who is culturally competent and able to work with a wide range of individuals from different backgrounds.
  • Administrative & Clinical Responsibilities: The role is divided equally between clinical patient care (seeing participants and providing follow-up) and administrative duties (managing team and operations). The Medical Director will oversee 1 Nurse Practitioner and 1 RN Clinic Supervisor.

Why Us?

  • Join a well-established organization with a strong mission to serve the community.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including performance-based incentives.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative environment with a focus on team success and patient care.
