Job Description:

This Medical Director-Endoscopy of Canyons Region oversees the endoscopy patient journey through the patient continuum of care in a dyad with the Region Endoscopy Nursing Director, including safety, procedure standards, procedure screening, procedure scheduling, staffing strategies, anesthesia coordination, and operational efficiencies and supplies. The Medical Director-Endoscopy-Region provides strategic direction, leadership, oversight, and support for a region-wide endoscopy team and develops a culture of highly reliable best care for patients. The Medical Director-Endoscopy-Region collaborates and communicates effectively with all endoscopy physicians, anesthesia professionals, and associated Advanced Practice Providers across the region, as well as other team members. This position also partners and collaborates with leaders in other Clinical Programs, Shared Clinical Services, Shared Support Services, Research & Academics, Intermountain Foundation, SelectHealth, and other aligned payers as well as the Specialty and Community Based Care Group and Clinical Excellence, to create a professional and positive environment for patients to receive care and for providers to do their work. The Medical Director-Endoscopy-Region champions provider growth and development, innovation, continuous improvement.

Scope

The Medical Director-Endoscopy, Canyons Region role reports to the Senior Medical Director of Surgical Operations. While primary relationships include all gastroenterologist health practitioners, this position is expected to collaborate, communicate, and build relationships with all members of the healthcare team as appropriate.

Job Essentials

Directs supervising physician leader for Region Intermountain endoscopy facilities.

Maintains clinical responsibilities as gastroenterologist.

Leads the process to establish evidence-based and best endoscopy care for our patients.

Ensures standards are effectively implemented and monitored across the region and helps to map the journey for patients from clinic scheduling to discharge from endoscopy.

Leads physician/advanced practice provider collaborations in endoscopy care across the region.

Defines and establishes the care models of all endoscopy patients in the facilities per the CMS/JC direction.

Defines and establishes the care models that best meets the needs of patients receiving diagnostic/treatment/therapy, including supplies and equipment through the periprocedural care.

Leads the process to identify where care should be provided with clinical program leadership and providers.

Leads the strategic vision and physician component of endoscopy via telehealth services in collaboration with the Surgical Specialties and Digestive Health.

Develops and implements a communication process which regularly informs and connects endoscopy providers/teams from across the region.

Develops, educates, and drives results for key performance metrics in endoscopy to include, but not limited to, patient experience, CMS metrics, documentation metrics, and complication rates. Drives for top decile performance nationally.

Collaborates with other members of the diagnostic health team to develop care pathways for encompassing conditions.

Develops credentialing criteria for hospital-based proceduralists caring for patients in endoscopy in partnership with specialty care.

Works with hospital Boards and clinical and administrative hospital leadership to implement standardized criteria in Intermountain hospitals. Assesses the access and demand/need for gastroenterologists/other team members and assists clinical program leadership, specialty care, and Medical Group in the recruitment process.

Evaluates opportunities to scale resources across the region using technology (i.e., telemedicine, etc.).

Participates in the Surgical Operations strategic planning process. Helps develop annual goals and ensures goals and objectives are achieved.

Supports appropriate research endeavors for endoscopy and collaborates with the Office of Research.

Orients and educates new team members to ensure there is clear understanding of care processes. Creates networking opportunities.

Supports local innovation and scales good ideas across the region.

Provides specialty specific review and/or consultation as requested by SelectHealth.

Provides specialty specific consultation as requested by Care Transformation/Information Systems.
