Job Description:

The Kidney Services Senior Medical Director (SMD) is an enterprise role and is the senior most physician leader within Kidney Services (IKS), a service line within Clinical Shared Services, reporting to a regional chief medical officer. This position works with the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Kidney Services, as a dyad partnership in leading all functions of Kidney Services. In collaboration with the AVP, this position is responsible for the creation and execution of IKS’ strategic vision, initiatives, and goals to drive better kidney health outcomes and improve enterprise value-based performance. The SMD directs and leads all physician services within Nephrology including physician recruitment, performance management, individual physician development, physician engagement, patient satisfaction, and alignment of services with IKS’ strategy working closely with Medical Group leadership. As the senior physician leader of IKS, this position works closely with other IKS leaders to establish appropriate care standards and ensure all operations and care provided is compliant with regulatory standards, evidence-based care, and IKS’ standards

Essential Functions

  • Lead an innovative, progressive care model for Kidney Services that is equitable, value-driven and traverses the continuum of patient experience for kidney disease. This work will include service delivery of guideline directed medical therapy and utilizing advanced predictive analytic tools to drive change in CKD and ESKD patient care.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual respect among all Intermountain providers, staff and administration, and other affiliated physicians.
  • Participates in the strategic planning process for Kidney Services, ensuring that annual goals and key performance metrics are established.
  • Effectively align, allocate, and deploy resources to achieve plans, initiatives, and goals.
  • Collaborate with national and international partners and organizations to support and enhance Intermountain’s reputation and influence, and to augment and refine guidelines and initiatives in CKD, ESKD, early access to kidney transplant and dialysis.
  • Create, review, and ensure policies, procedures, and guidelines meet regulatory and safety compliance in kidney services and activities.
  • Provide input regarding staffing and assist with the selection and onboarding of caregivers.
  • Provide clinical services including diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of conditions requiring medical care including consultation with other providers as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board certified nephrologist
  • Functioned as a physician leader
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and drive quality standards
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leadership experience, multi-site and multi-practice
  • Understanding of industry to include dialysis, kidney disease, and value-based care
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective strategies

Physical Requirements

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$7.25 - $999.99
