Job Description
The AMD: Ambulatory Informatics will lead the outpatient part of the System Informatics Team. They will report to the Chief Medical Informatics Officer and will be peers of the AMD: Acute Care Informatics and AMD of Operational Informatics. The AMD: Ambulatory will have a leadership role in the Build and Validation EHR workgroups, supporting best practices to provide technology that delivers the highest quality, most efficient care, supporting both patient and clinician satisfaction.
Provides leadership and establishes direction for a comprehensive informatics program with a primary focus on provider practice and interdisciplinary patient-driven care. Directs and leads department operations, assists with clinical system strategy and objectives, oversees physician and nursing adoption, and support of electronic medical record (EMR) workflow. Serves as a champion for complex clinical projects and systems that support efficiency and effectiveness for end users, with a primary goal of advancing evidence-based practice. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment. Manages the governance and decisions related to technical solutions through a broad range of collegial interactions throughout all the markets. Directs and leads implementations, upgrades, and workflow optimizations. Interprets and designs physician requests to enhance the system. Evaluates and manages efficient use of the EMR through process improvement initiatives utilizing evidence based best practice and cooperation with specialties and service lines throughout the system, pushing to standardization of workflow and top decile care. Manages a team of analysts within the clinical informatics department as well as in Cerner IT works, directing the roadmap and scope of work to accomplish main goals of position. Partners with IT department, Cerner IT works and other departments as necessary to support strategic initiatives across the system, pushing through tactical processes to support initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in healthcare, business or informatics or fellowship in informatics: Preferred
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from an accredited university: Required
- Seven years' related experience: Preferred
- Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
- Electronic medical record (EMR) implementation experience: Required
- Board Certification: Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Represents providers in all aspects of technical build, implementation and optimization of applications utilizing informatics guiding principles to include top decile evidence-based patient care, strategic goals, regulatory requirements, and process improvement.
- Provides governance of technical solutions impacting providers by engaging leaders and subject matter experts in the governance process and communication and education out to all providers in the system of decisions and functionality of technical applications.
- Improves quality outcomes through the evaluation of clinical workflow processes and assisting with design for achievement of best practice and improved outcomes, which may include enhancement, changes or optimization of clinical information systems.
- Improves the quality and effectiveness of the enterprise's clinical systems by providing leadership, coordinating, and facilitating the evaluation and improvement of a wide range of programs and systems, with excellence reflected in improved outcomes & physician EHR adoption and organizational performance.
- Oversees supporting activities for clinical computer system implementation and the impact to clinical processes to achieve best practice and optimum workflow.
