Overview

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding an Director of Child Psychiatry Fellowship at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. The Behavioral Health Center offers a comprehensive suite of services for mental health including First Episode Psychosis program, medical services, opioid treatment, substance use disorders services, a specialized unit for people with Intellectually Disability, an inpatient Extended care unit focusing on the needs of our homeless patients and prevent recidivism, ketamine assisted therapy, and inpatient and outpatient services for adults and children. Our skilled team—including adult and child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, internists, nurses, social workers, creative arts therapists, peer counselors and addiction counselors delivers compassionate care in a secure environment, respecting each patient's dignity and partnering with them on their recovery journey. We also provide educational resources for patients and caregivers to enhance their understanding of mental health and addiction issues and available treatments.The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University to maintain its high healthcare delivery standards and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities and the chance to work with medical students, residents and fellows very closely.

Opportunity Details

  1. Program Administration:
  • Oversee and organize the multiple activities of the educational program
  • Dedicate sufficient time and effort to the program to ensure continuity of leadership and to fulfill all responsibilities necessary to meet the educational goals of the program.
  • Assemble and chair a program Education Committee and Program Evaluation Committee to assist in the administration and conduct of all program elements. The committee should include representative faculty and resident membership and report to the Chair of Psychiatry.
  • Work closely with the Chair and the Chief to define and obtain from the department and institution the educational resources necessary to conduct the program. Through the Chair, it is essential that the Program Director obtain the commitment and active involvement of the teaching faculty in the educational program, including that of the Chair.
  • Participate in the selection and supervision of teaching staff and other program personnel at each outside institution or clinical site participating in the program.
  • Work collegially with other Program Directors, Chairs and Faculty within KCHC and SUNY to develop off-service clinical and educational rotations and experiences necessary for resident education.
  • Work effectively with SUNY Downstate Department of Psychiatry Vice Chair for Education and Training (or other ACGME’s “DIO” if different) to ensure the program’s compliance with all institutional accreditation expectations, to obtain necessary support and resource allocation for the program, and to personally participate in the institution’s Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and in any other assigned educational administrative activities at the institutional level. Assist with programming for the general psychiatry residents mandatory 2-month CAP rotation and attend Education Policy Committee meetings in SUNY.
  • Select and/or oversee the annual selection of an Administrative Chief Fellow (ACF). Work in concert with the ACF and all other fellows to define and modify as necessary the interrelated administrative functions of the Program Director, Administrative Chief Fellow, Psychiatry Resident Chiefs-of-Service and Teaching Faculty in order to ensure an atmosphere of cooperation, open-mindedness and mutual respect in the overall conduct of the program.
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable of the current and periodic revisions of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program requirements for fellowship education as written, approved and published by the RRC and ACGME.
  • Define the educational goals and objectives of the program with respect to knowledge, skills and attributes for fellows at each level of training and for each major rotation or other program assignment. The document of goals and objectives should be developed in accord with the RRC's "Program Requirements" and with the assistance of the teaching faculty, must be distributed to and understood by all fellows and faculty, and must be reviewed at least annually by the Program Director, Faculty and Fellows for necessary changes.
  • Assure that within the program's educational goals and objectives are included those that define the specific knowledge, skills, behaviors and attributes required of the fellows to achieve competency in those six areas required by the RRC/ACGME: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice- Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism and Systems-Based Practices.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive, well-organized and effective curriculum containing the clinical and academic elements necessary to enable the fellows to fulfill the program's educational goals and objectives and to achieve clinical and technical competency in all defined and required areas.
  • Evaluation of Fellows, Faculty and Program.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Child Fellowship and board be certified in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine
  • Completed residency training in an accredited program within Psychiatry
  • Two to three years in an Academic setting
  • License to practice medicine in the State of New York
