Job Description:

  • Provides clinical leadership and direction to the development of adult psychiatric services
  • Ensures that all consumers receive psychiatric services appropriate to their condition promptly
  • Provides clinical supervision to the Psychiatrists and the Director of Nursing for Adult Services
  • Responsible for the financial performance of the Medical Department, including individual clinician productivity, revenue enhancement, and expense control
  • Responsible for the development of medical policy and is the ultimate clinical authority for Adult Services
  • Supervises medical services including medications, psychiatric examinations, and treatment planning for persons served.
  • Provides supervision to Psychiatrists and the Assistant Medical Director for Adult Services.
  • Ensures that the psychiatry staff are using the approved clinical formulary in prescribing psychotropic medications; reviews and approves changes to the clinical formulary.
  • Provides consultation to other providers of behavioral health services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions for training and recruitment.
  • Represents the agency in the community, and promotes collaboration in the development of new programs and services.
  • Serves as liaison to the Medical Directors of the county mental health boards, OMHAS, the state psychiatric hospitals, psychiatric units of community hospitals, and other community mental health centers.
  • Ensures the quality of Medical Services by participating in relevant quality improvement and service excellence activities.
  • Chairs the Medical Staff meetings.
  • Serves as a member of the Clinical Staff Organization.
  • Formulates policies and procedures that ensure consistent medical practice with Adult Services.
  • Establishes clinical practice standards for the Medical Department in collaboration with the physicians, nurses, and the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Acts as the final authority in client-specific diagnostic and treatment plan issues for adult clients.
