Job Description

Last Update: 12/04/24
I need multiple IM physicians to cover locums on the beautiful US Virgin Island of St. Croix starting the first week of March, ongoing. The assignments run Monday at 8am - the following Monday at 8am when you'd turn over to the incoming physician. You would fly in the Sunday prior and fly out after turning the unit over the following Monday. You are able to cover 1 to 2 weeks in a row and your temporary license will be good for 90 days so multiple assignments are possible under your temp license! Board Certification or Eligibility in Internal Medicine is required. This hospital compensates you directly $1200 per day and $135 per hour for in-hospital work after hours. You will be compensated within a few weeks of the end of your assignment depending on when your assignment ends and the current payroll bi-weekly rotation. The hospital credentialing and licensing can be accomplished in less than a week! We expect dates to fill quickly so please do not delay in responding.

Job details -

The Medicine service schedules 2 physicians on call per week from Monday 8am to the following Monday 8am. Usually 7 days on service followed by 7 days off service. Locum physicians however, may be scheduled for up to 2 weeks based on availability. During the on call week, physicians take call for admissions and consultations every other day (24hrs). The physician is responsible for daily rounds on assigned inpatients during the week, including documenting History and Physicals, daily progress notes electronically with updated care plans and communication with patients, families, consultants, nurses, case managers, and appropriate ancillary services. The average inpatient load is 10-20 daily. All transfers and discharge summaries should be timely documented. Daily orders are to be clearly written in patients' charts. There is no nocturnist coverage, so nursing calls on inpatients overnight are also the responsibility of the assigned physician. All orders given via telephone must be co-signed, timed and dated within 24hrs. Verbal orders are not generally accepted unless there is an emergency. At the end of the rotation, the physician is responsible for creating a typed sign out list assigning all inpatients to the upcoming on call physicians for the following week. Verbal communication with the upcoming physician is encouraged.
