The Medicine service schedules 2 physicians on call per week from Monday 8am to the following Monday 8am. Usually 7 days on service followed by 7 days off service. Locum physicians however, may be scheduled for up to 2 weeks based on availability. During the on call week, physicians take call for admissions and consultations every other day(24hrs). The physician is responsible for daily rounds on assigned inpatients during the week, including documenting History and Physicals, daily progress notes electronically with updated care plans and communication with patients, families, consultants, nurses, case managers, and appropriate ancillary services. The average inpatient load is 10-20 daily. All transfers and discharge summaries should be timely documented. Daily orders are to be clearly written in patients' charts.
