In this role, you’ll partner with the VISN 16 Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer to enhance specialty care services, advance medical education, and foster innovation in research across the region.

Why This Role Matters

VISN 16 is one of the largest VA networks, serving Veterans across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. Collectively, VISN 16 facilities have created 15 innovations and adopted over 100 innovations, reflecting a culture of forward-thinking excellence.

As the Specialty Care ICC Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing specialty care across this diverse and innovative network, ensuring Veterans receive the high-quality, patient-centered care they deserve.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with facility leadership to improve the quality and consistency of specialty care services.
  • Assist in developing and refining VISN 16 clinical protocols, policies, guidelines, and directives.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance outcomes, safety, and the overall patient experience.
  • Integrate research and education into clinical practices to foster innovation.
  • Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • On-site work at one of the VISN 16 locations: Fayetteville, AR, Little Rock, AR, Alexandria, LA, New Orleans, LA, Shreveport, LA, Biloxi, MS, Jackson, MS, Ridgeland, MS, or Houston, TX.
Preferred Experience
We’re seeking a leader who brings:

  • Strong managerial and organizational skills to guide teams and drive change.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge in specialty care and related programs to inform decisions.
  • Board certification in internal medicine or a subspecialty of internal medicine (highly encouraged).
Basic Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship (Non-U.S. citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy).
  • A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited program in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • A current, full, and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory
  • Completion of residency training accredited by the ACGME or equivalent.
This is your chance to influence the quality and effectiveness of Specialty Care in VISN 16, a region known for its commitment to innovation and excellence in healthcare. If you’re a visionary leader with a passion for serving Veterans, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Ms. Andrea Poulin at [Register to View] for more information.

  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
