Located in the heart of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) can be found on 175 acres in historic Berkeley County and has a service area of more than 70,000 Veterans in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. Job Responsibilities
-Initial and ongoing assessment of a patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
-Obtain and document a comprehensive medical and psychological history and physical examination.
-Order appropriate diagnostic tests with review and interpretation resulting in appropriate action (s).
-Formulates and appropriately documents the clinical impression and plan of care.
-Refers patients to specialty care consultants.
-Provides medical advice to patients, families and community health providers as needed for coordination of care.
-Documents patient care in the electronic health record in compliance with the Medical Staff By-Laws and Medical Center Memorandums.
-Works in close collaboration with CBOC Nurse Managers (Coordinators) in conducting daily operations.
-Attends Medical Center meetings, seminars, conferences on behalf of the Primary Care Service.

Qualifications
-United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
-Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
-The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
-Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
