Job Description
Physicians are responsible for the medical care, treatment, and education of patients within the scope of their specialty throughout their life cycles, for establishing and maintaining minimum standards of care and for the supervision and education of all other providers regarding direct patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.
- Secures history and physical examination of patient in outpatient service.
- Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
- Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
- As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to supervise, advice and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
- Demonstrates understanding and commitment of mission and values of the health center.
- Utilizes laboratory and diagnostic services as necessary.
- Performs emergency treatment in cases of serious illness or injury.
- Seeks outside advice and consultation as necessary; refers for medical surgical or other adjunct services those patients requiring specialty consultation, or for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment.
- Participates in preventive medicine activities such as immunization, disease detection and prevention.
- Participates in an on-call rotation to provide timely support and resolution of urgent issues as they arise.
- Participates in regular medical component meetings.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Fulfills the expectations of the physician contract.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current valid and unrestricted DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance licensure for prescriptive authority.
- Current CPR Certificate.
- Must have completed full residency training as required by the specialty.
