The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, in Jay, OK is seeking a full-time, Primary Care Physician. Jay- Jay is located at the junction of State Highways 59 and 20. n 1967 business leaders established the Huckleberry Festival. This event, sponsored by the chamber of commerce, is held each year during the Fourth of July holiday, with activities ranging from a parade and arts-and-crafts displays to a carnival and turtle races for children. Jay is located near a multitude of outdoor and recreational adventures. From kayaking and canoeing to hiking and bike trails to off road parks that feature white sand. There are several farmers markets and unique craft boutiques for that real small town feel, yet close to bigger cities like Tulsa, OK, Kansas City, KS and Springfield, MO.

Job Responsibilities

The Department of Veterans Affairs Fayetteville Veteran Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Primary Care Physician to join our team at the Jay Oklahoma CBOC. The ideal candidate will have experience performing the duties below:

1. Performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits.
2. Evaluates, consults, develops diagnosis, and manages the primary care panel of patients assigned.
3. Enters progress notes in computerized medical record and completes workload documentation in a timely manner.
4. Provides medical care encompassing acute and chronic medical conditions and all appropriate preventive care for both male and female veterans.
5. Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient.
6. Provides timely follow-up on results, including completion of view alerts.
7. Determines medical assessment and develops treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
8. Prescribes medications according to approved formulary, and in accordance with Federal and State Law.
9. Educates patients concerning medical conditions and recommended treatments. (Specific topics include nutritional counseling, need for smoking cessation, need for periodic immunizations and health screening tests, and other preventive health measures).
10.Consults other specialties as appropriate, according to service agreements.
11. Additional duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above and may be required as dictated by patient care.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
Comprehensive Women's Health background.
Board Certified/Eligible in Family Medicine and/or Internal Medicine.
