Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) was founded in 1996 to ensure that the socio-economically depressed and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services, Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved/uninsured residents.
BCHN’s mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured persons; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 zip codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.
Job Responsibilities
Provides comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages in accordance to ADA standards and guidelines.
Perform routine dental examinations including x-rays, screenings, and assessments of oral health.
Consistent with BCHN goals and other regulatory mandates, maintain a roster of scheduled dental patients and treat dental emergencies (walk-in-patients) when available.
Prepare patients for treatment (by applying oral sedation or anesthesia)
Check teeth, gums, and other parts of the mouth, along with X-rays and tests, to diagnose dental problems.
Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, and BCHN policies and procedures.
Diagnose and treat oral diseases, injuries, and abnormalities.
Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs, including restorative preventive and therapeutic procedures.
Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns, and dentures.
Conduct tooth extractions and root canal procedures.
Perform dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, root canals and periodontal procedures as indicated.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and the importance of regular dental visits.
Follow all established guidelines in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Complete Performance Appraisals and Competency Evaluations for dental support staff under his/her supervision on an annual basis and as needed.
Refer patients to specialists as needed for further evaluation and treatment.
Assist in completing insurance forms, dental completion forms, and any other forms that patients require.
Contribute to the development of policies and standards of patient care by participating in committees.
Perform other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
Degree from accredited dental school (DDS or DMD)
Commitment to and knowledge of community dental health care.
Current license to practice in New York State (Required)
Doctorate or better (Required)
Experience with Athena Health EMR is helpful. (Preferred)
DEA Controlled Substances Registration Certificate.
Skills
Strong computer skills required.
