Washington Regional Medical Center located in beautiful Fayetteville, Arkansas is seeking a full-time Medical Director of the Antibiotic Stewardship program. The Medical Director will be responsible for leading the antibiotic stewardship team, which includes reviewing and analyzing all inpatients receiving antibiotics and reviewing all inpatient clinical culture results, including but not limited to respiratory infections, wound infections, sepsis, bacteremia, urinary tract infections, and intraabdominal infections. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with the primary provider and/or consultants regarding safe and effective antibiotic treatment. Additionally, the Infectious Disease Specialist will collaborate with other medical professionals to implement infection control policies and procedures.

- We are seeking an initiative-taking and experienced physician with a strong background in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship
- Medical Doctorate or Doctor of Osteopathy degree required along with appropriate board certification and qualifications
- Three years of experience in an acute care setting

- In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for our infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety for our patients
- As a key member of our leadership team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, influence policy and practice, and drive initiatives to reduce healthcare-associated infections and promote evidence-based and cost-effective antibiotic use
- Collaborates with Hospital Chief Medical Officer and Physician Executives to identify and resolve antimicrobial barriers to efficient hospitalization and discharge
- Work to ensure Washington Regional maintains compliance with CMS conditions of participation for antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention. Ensure compliance with all antibiotic stewardship measures required by The Joint Commission and maintain the CDC Core Measures for antibiotic stewardship. There is an expectation to maintain the IDSA Centers of Excellence designation for antibiotic stewardship
- Develop and implement infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship strategies and initiatives in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to improve healthcare outcomes and promote patient safety
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs within the organization
- Monitor and analyze data related to healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic use to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted interventions
- Develop policies and protocols for infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship in accordance with national guidelines and best practices
- Serve as a subject matter expert on infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship and provide guidance and education to healthcare staff
- Assignments include but are not limited to; co-leading the quarterly antimicrobial stewardship committee meetings and quarterly Infection Prevent and Control Committee meetings, quarterly review and distribution of facility antibiograms, monthly review of antibiotic duration of therapy (DOT), and monitoring and tracking the CDC’s NHSN standardized infection ratios (SIRs), standardized antibiotic administration ratios (SAARs), and standardized resistant infection ratios (SRIRs)
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders to ensure compliance with infection control and antimicrobial stewardship regulations
- Mentor and train other healthcare professionals and Housestaff on infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship principles and practices. Didactic instruction for Housestaff and medical students is strongly encouraged
- Ensure timely reporting of infection rates and antimicrobial use to relevant authorities and stakeholders
- Attend and participate in daily ICU multidisciplinary rounds for antibiotic stewardship and infection prevention advice and teaching, when appropriate
